More patients than ever before are eligible to receive dental implants. Curious to learn if you would be a candidate? Read on to learn more.
Am I a Candidate for Dental Implants?
Over the past many years, dental implants have become the leading choice in tooth replacement treatments. If you are unfamiliar, a dental implant is a titanium post that is surgically implanted in the jawbone to act as a replacement for the tooth root. Over time, this post fuses with the jawbone, and treatment is completed when a replacement tooth structure, such as a dental crown is placed in the mouth. Many years ago, when this treatment came about, there was a large number of requirements for patients to be eligible for treatment. Today, many more patients than ever before are candidates for dental implants due to the advancements in the treatment process as well as dental technology.
While there are many patients who are eligible for treatment, there are still some patients who may not qualify at this time. They include:
Smokers
Unfortunately, if you are a smoker or use tobacco products, you will not be eligible for dental implants. The process is lengthy and can be full of complications if you are a smoker. Our goal is for the implant to be successful and, due to the effect of tobacco use and smoking, most patients who use these products will have less than ideal results.
Patients Needing Immediate Treatment
The process for dental implants is not quick. In fact, treatment from start to finish will take quite a few months. If you are in need of an immediate replacement, we can discuss other replacement options that will better fit your needs.
Certain Medical Conditions
Patients with certain medical conditions or who may be receiving medical treatments, such as chemotherapy, may not be eligible for treatment. Our team can evaluate the state of your oral health to make a decision.
