Importance Of Following Before And After-Treatment Directions
While it is always our goal for our patients to have ideal health and experience no complications, that is not reality. Thankfully, at Noble Oaks Dentistry, we offer a number of restorative treatments that can improve and repair any problem areas or damage to your oral health. We also provide cosmetic dentistry treatments to patients who are looking to improve the appearance of their teeth. As with any medical treatment, it is imperative that you follow any and all of our directions before and after your procedure. Failure to do so negatively impacts the success of treatment as well as your recovery time.
Following Before-Treatment Instructions
It is important for you to share your medical history with our team prior to any dental treatment. There are certain medications that need to be stopped before you receive treatment, as they can lead to serious complications. There are also other patients who may need to take an antibiotic prior to any dental treatments to eliminate the possibility of an infection developing.
Following After-Treatment Instructions
Depending on the treatment, we will provide instructions for you to follow. Failure to do so can result in a treatment not being successful. This may cause the need for additional treatments, which can result in added discomfort, not to mention additional expenses. Each patient heals differently following treatment, but it is wise to follow all of our instructions, especially in terms of rest and eating.
Don’t Eat While Numb
If you received a numbing agent during your treatment, be sure to let the effects wear off before you eat. Chewing when you can’t properly feel your mouth can lead to serious damage. It is easy to bite your tongue, cheeks and lips, leading to additional problems such as canker sores. It is also wise to eat on the opposite side of the treatment site until you are fully healed, unless we provide other instructions.
