Summer Dental Care Tips
We have been enjoying the long summer day and hope you have been too! Summer days seem more relaxed, especially with no school in session and many work schedules shortened or changed for the season. While we hope you are having tons of summer fun, we want to remind you to continue to care for your oral health. Unfortunately, not caring for your teeth now can lead to unwanted oral health issues in the future. Continue reading to learn some helpful suggestions to care for your teeth this summer.
Dental Care Tips for the Summer
We know that thinking about your oral health is not a high priority for you this summer, but we want to ensure you do not experience a dental emergency or other oral health complication. Be sure to follow these helpful tips:
Schedule Your Next Appointment
The summer is the perfect time to check the dates of the last hygiene examination appointments for everyone in your family. If it has been longer than six months, we suggest calling now to schedule appointments before the hustle and bustle of the fall season resumes. While we know that most families are typically busy during the school year, many people’s schedules are more relaxed during the summer months.
Limit Sugary Foods and Beverages
We have heard from our patients that they have exciting plans this summer with friends and family. Whether you are attending a pool party, BBQ, or other type of party, there is sure to be plenty of delicious food to enjoy. We know that many of the treats enjoyed during this time of year are full of sugar. We want to remind patients to enjoy sugary foods and drinks in moderation. When it is extremely hot, it can be tempting to consume drinks that are high in sugar, such as sports drinks and soft drinks. We recommend skipping the sugary drinks and choosing water instead.
Maintain Your Oral Hygiene Routine
After full days in the sun and more late nights than usual, it may be tempting to skip portions of your oral hygiene routine. We want to encourage our patients to be sure to thoroughly brush and floss as usual, especially after a night of indulging in treats. Not caring for your teeth over the summer can lead to serious decay problems in the fall and winter.
If you or a loved one are in need of a hygiene examination, be sure to contact our office located in Kaufman, TX to schedule an appointment. We look forward to seeing you soon and hope you have an amazing remainder of summer.
