The Importance Of Preventative Dental Care
It is our goal for all of our patients to have optimal oral health. Unfortunately, that is not always the case. However, there are certain things you can do to improve your current and future oral health. The best way to accomplish this is with preventative dental care.
What is Preventative Dental Care?
Just as the name suggests, preventative dental care helps prevent dental problems from developing in the mouth now and in the future. There are two ways you can accomplish preventative dental care. The first is to have an oral hygiene routine at home. This is when you will thoroughly brush your teeth a minimum of two times per day as well as use dental floss daily. It is also important that you check your teeth, gums, and mouth regularly to look for signs of any potential problems. The other method of preventative dental care is visiting our office every four to six months for a routine hygiene examination appointment. The length of time between appointments will be determined by the state of your oral health. For example, our pediatric patients and most adults can visit us every six months, while those who experience certain issues, such as gum disease, will require more frequent visits.
Use Preventative Measures
Other ways to improve your oral health include following through with our recommendations, such as receiving treatment for conditions such as bruxism, TMJ, and more. It is also important to take protective measures, such as wearing a mouthguard when participating in a physical sport or activity with a risk of head injury or impact.
