When To Replace Your Toothbrush And Other Oral Health Tips
At Noble Oaks Dentistry, we are passionate about your oral health and want our patients to share the passion we feel. We see our patients so infrequently during the year that they must be responsible for managing their oral hygiene routine on their own. We want to stress the importance of caring for your teeth properly each and every day. It will save you a lot of money in the end when you do not need additional dental care. Here are some helpful tips:
Replacing Your Toothbrush
Did you know that your toothbrush should be replaced every 2-3 months? It is also important to visually inspect your toothbrush and replace it when the bristles appear damaged or bent. This will occur if you’re brushing too hard or chewing on your brush. Toothbrushes should also be replaced after an illness such as a cold, fever, or strep throat.
Floss Daily
Unfortunately, many people don’t understand the importance of flossing daily. Flossing should not be saved for when you feel food trapped between your teeth. We recommend that patients floss a minimum of once a day. This is the best way to ensure that no food or bacteria are trapped between the teeth. When patients don’t floss regularly, they are more likely to experience decay and gum disease. When patients visit for routine oral hygiene examinations, we are able to see how often they floss.
Avoid Snacking Throughout the Day
Each time you eat, bacteria are introduced into your mouth. When you frequently snack throughout the day, there is an overabundance of harmful bacteria in your mouth. The same can be said if you regularly sip on sugary coffee or soft drinks multiple times a day. Over time, this can lead to problems with decay.
