Routine Cleanings Are More Important Than You May Realize

Daily brushing and flossing are the keys to success when it comes to your oral health. But brushing and flossing alone are not enough if you want to keep your teeth and gums in tip-top shape over the long term. No matter how diligent you are with your oral care at home, plaque and tartar still accumulate on your teeth and around your gum line, in the places the toothbrush and floss can’t always reach, leaving you vulnerable to cavities and gingivitis. The best way to boost your home dental care routine and prevent tooth decay is to have your teeth professionally cleaned at least once every six months to remove stubborn calculus from those hard-to-reach places.

Healthy Teeth and Gums is as Easy as 1-2-3

When you visit Noble Oaks Dentistry for a cleaning, you will come away with instantly healthier teeth and gums. Our experienced and professional hygienists are thorough yet gentle to ensure you are always comfortable and happy with the results.

Step One

After a visual examination of your teeth and gums, the hygienist will safely and gently remove all traces of plaque and tartar from the surfaces of your teeth using tools specially designed for this purpose. If you hear a little scraping sound during the procedure, that’s normal. Generally, no anesthetic is required for a routine teeth cleaning, but we will always make sure you are comfortable and pain free during the entire process.

Step Two

Once your teeth are free of tartar, the hygienist will use another special tool and a substance formulated to polish tooth enamel to give your teeth a nice shine. The polish we use does not damage or remove enamel but smooths the surfaces of your teeth to help protect them from bacteria. Polishing your teeth gives you that slick feeling when you run your tongue across them and helps maintain a bright smile.

Step Three

Most of our patients ask for a fluoride treatment when they come in for a professional cleaning. Fluoride, a substance added to most toothpastes, provides teeth with an additional defense against enamel-corroding bacteria. When you receive a fluoride treatment at Noble Oaks Dentistry, the hygienist “paints” it on your teeth after they have been cleaned and polished. In this concentrated form, the fluoride acts like a shield protecting your newly cleaned and polished teeth. After about 30 minutes, you can eat and drink as you normally would without altering its effectiveness.
