Oral Surgery

Oral surgery is the general term for any surgical procedure involving the mouth or the jaw, including tooth extraction and dental implant placement. Many dentists do not perform oral surgery and end up referring patients who need it out to specialists. While that is a perfectly acceptable practice, it may not always be the most convenient or preferred option for the patient.

Dr. Jerry James is trained in oral surgery, which means that, at Noble Oaks Dentistry, our patients can receive oral surgery procedures right here in the office—no need to see a specialist. This not only saves patients time, it also means they can get the care they need from the dentist and team they already know and trust.

Wisdom tooth extraction is a common oral surgery procedure. Because wisdom teeth emerge in the late teens, long after all the other permanent teeth have, they often cause problems with the other teeth or become impacted. Dr. James may recommend extracting one or all of them, depending on how they are affecting your oral health, your bite, and the alignment of your teeth.

Once a tooth has been extracted or falls out, it naturally leaves a space where it once was. In many cases—for health as well as aesthetic reasons—patients choose to replace missing teeth rather than have a gap in their smile. Dental implants are a popular choice for replacing missing teeth, but placing them requires the patient to undergo a surgical procedure that some dentists aren’t trained to perform. Dr. James, however, is qualified to perform dental implant placement.
