Help Your Teens Navigate Their Oral Health
At Noble Oaks Dentistry, we stress the importance of maintaining proper oral health to our patients of all ages. Our young patients follow their parents’ directions and often receive help when brushing and cleaning their teeth as well as attending scheduled routine appointments. Unfortunately, as children move into the teenage years, sometimes it is not as easy to guide their oral health.
Teenagers are known for testing boundaries as they navigate their way to adulthood. Whether you have a teenager in your home or not, you most likely remember your teenage years and the feeling of longing for independence. At times, this independence can negatively affect their oral health. We want to help our teenage patients understand the harm they can cause their teeth when they are not cared for properly.
Help Teens Create Good Habits
Navigating the teen years can be difficult for the teenager and the parents and loved ones. Parents can often feel that teenagers aren’t listening, and although they might not seem like it, they are hearing what you say. The best thing that you can do for your child in terms of their oral health, is to encourage healthy habits and stress the importance of cleaning your teeth properly. We also recommend that your teen maintain their routine oral hygiene examinations and cleaning every six months. Here are some helpful tips that not only apply to your teen, but anyone in your household:
- Limit soft drinks and sport drinks and encourage drinking water instead
- Provide healthy snack options and discourage fast food and junk food options
- Encourage brushing and flossing after meals, especially when wearing braces
- Discuss the dangers of sharing toothbrushes
- Wear a mouthguard when playing sports
If you, your teen, or another loved one has not visited our office located in Kaufman, TX recently for a hygiene examination, we encourage you to call today to schedule an appointment.
